How to Cleanse and Charge Your Crystals
Your crystals work hard for you — absorbing energy, holding intentions, sitting with you through good days and hard ones. Just like anything that "collects" energy, they need regular care to keep performing at their best. This guide walks you through why cleansing and charging matter, the safest methods for each, and category-specific care for every stone in the Tejra Crystals family.
Why Cleanse and Charge?
Cleansing clears out the energy your crystal has absorbed from its environment, past owners, or its own hard work supporting you. Charging restores and amplifies the crystal's natural energy so it can keep doing its job — attracting abundance, love, protection, or clarity, depending on the stone.
Do both regularly, especially:
When you first bring a new crystal home
After a period of heavy use or an emotionally intense stretch
Roughly once a month for daily-wear pieces like bracelets and rakhis
Any time the crystal feels "dull," heavier, or less vibrant to you
General Cleansing Methods
Moonlight — Place your crystal on a windowsill or outdoors overnight, ideally under a full moon. Safe for virtually every stone.
Cool running water — Hold the crystal under a tap or natural stream for 30–60 seconds. Skip this for soft, porous, or water-sensitive stones.
Smoke cleansing — Pass the crystal through the smoke of sage, palo santo, or incense a few times.
Sound — Ring a bell or play a singing bowl near the crystal for 30–60 seconds; the vibrations shake loose stagnant energy.
Earth burial — Bury the crystal in soil or a bowl of uncooked rice for 24 hours to let it discharge naturally. Avoid for fragile or flaking stones.
Selenite plate — Simply resting other crystals on a selenite charging plate cleanses them, since selenite never needs cleansing itself.
General Charging Methods
Sunlight — A short 20–30 minute stint in gentle morning sun energizes most crystals. Avoid strong midday sun for colour-sensitive stones.
Moonlight — The gentlest all-purpose charging method, especially powerful during a full moon.
Earth contact — Resting a crystal directly on soil or grass lets it recharge from the earth's natural energy.
Selenite or Clear Quartz — Both are natural amplifiers; placing other crystals nearby charges them too.
Intention and breath — Hold the crystal, take a few slow breaths, and set a clear intention for what you want it to support.
Category-Wise Care Guide
Rose Quartz (Love & Compassion)
Gentle and slightly porous. Cleanse with moonlight, smoke, or sound — avoid prolonged water exposure and always keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades its soft pink colour over time. Charge with moonlight or a selenite plate.
Citrine (Abundance & Prosperity)
One of the few stones that rarely needs cleansing since it doesn't hold negative energy — but a monthly refresh still helps. Sunlight actually enhances citrine's natural warmth, so it's one of the few stones safe for a short sunbath. Running water is fine occasionally.
Tiger's Eye & Pyrite (Career & Confidence)
Both are durable stones that handle water, sound, and smoke cleansing well. Charge with sunlight or earth contact — pyrite especially benefits from sitting on soil to reconnect with grounding energy. Avoid harsh chemicals, which can dull pyrite's metallic shine.
Black Tourmaline (Protection)
A workhorse stone that absorbs a lot, so cleanse it more often — weekly is ideal if worn daily. Running water, smoke, and earth burial all work well. Charge with moonlight or earth contact rather than sun, which doesn't affect this stone much either way.
Amethyst (Calm & Clarity, 7 Chakra sets)
Clear Quartz (Master Healer, 7 Chakra sets)
The most versatile stone — safe with every cleansing and charging method, including full sun and water. It's also commonly used to charge other crystals nearby, so keep one on hand as your "helper" stone.
Selenite (Charging & Clearing)
Never needs cleansing and should never touch water — it's soft (gypsum) and will dissolve or flake. Simply place it in moonlight occasionally to keep its energy fresh, and let it do the work of cleansing your other crystals.
Moonstone & Lapis Lazuli (Intuition & Wisdom)
Moderately soft stones — favour moonlight and smoke over water or abrasive cleaning. Charge with moonlight (fittingly, for moonstone) or a selenite plate.
Caring for Rakhi & Bracelet Pieces
Since Tejra's crystal rakhis and bracelets are worn directly on the skin, they pick up energy quickly and benefit from lighter, more frequent care:
A quick pass through incense smoke or a few minutes on a selenite plate weekly
A moonlight charge the night before wearing them for something meaningful — a festival, an important day, or after a stressful week
Avoid soaking multi-stone or charm bracelets in water, since threading and metal findings can degrade over time

Quick Reference
Do: Cleanse new crystals before first use. Charge under a full moon whenever possible. Cleanse protection stones like Black Tourmaline more often. Keep a Selenite plate on hand as an easy reset tool.
Avoid: Direct sunlight on Rose Quartz, Amethyst, or other colour-sensitive stones. Water on Selenite or other soft, porous stones. Harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning on any stone. Skipping cleansing after emotionally heavy days.
